Deejaa Voo

"Mudah saja nak bezakan kita semua ni. Orang Cina kulit dia cerah sikit dari Melayu, India pulak gelap sikit dari kita Melayu." (En. Suhaimi Omar, Sejarah Tingkatan 3, Sek. Men. Sultan Idris Shah II Gerik)

A story from yesterdays.
Same story, different chapter. Huh?! Walked in for a meeting yesterday, upon an unplanned project. Yea....website again. The client is one of the big names in the Asia's advertising. Nothing impressed at the begining excepts just for the interior. What the heck, its an advertising agency.

In the conference room, there were already two individuals waited for us. (Let me reprhase them as Indian 1, Indian 2) Had some rubbish chats, laughed (except me, yet to understand what was so funny). Then came in a young, kinda yuppie guy. Introduced to us. Aha...the head designer. (Malay 1)

And, the meeting started. Through out the entire session, I estimated that 90% of the talking done by the Indian 1, Indian 2, and my boss, who is and Indian too. Me and the Malay 1 only interfered occationally. Fine. Talk..talk..talk..talk. Then we came to a "business engagement", us called it as money. Indian 1 made an intercom, few minutes later an amoi (Chinese 1) got in with a bunch of documents to be signed by my boss, together with a cheques. Later, came in another amoi (Chinese 2) to hand over another piece of paper. Both of them left, and there was a satisfactions facial on my boss. Yea...hail to the money.

The meeting was over and we; me, my boss, and Indian 1; had a little chat at the agency's lobby while waiting for Malay 1 to make a copy of the needed materials. There they were again. Talk...talk...talk. Indian 1 and the boss. Me just laid my back to the walls and whispered a lonely tales to the pouring rains. Damn...it was bad. The downpour. In minutes, an awek betudung merah (Malay 2) came down to pass the cdrom. And...bloody hell..."sempat menggatal makhluk ni"...Tak guna nye bos. Hey!! I'm here, and still single dude. Give me a chance la. Cess...

Then we said goodbye to each other. Me and boss went straight for a teh tarik at the nearby mamak restaurant while waiting for the rain to stop. I asked my boss about the advert agency. I got to know that it is a bumiputera ownership, but runs by a sikh CEO. Fine.

On the way back to office, it crossed-out my mind. Wow... that was truly Malaysian, dude. Synonymous to the colonial era of Tanah Melayu. But with a lil bit of twisting. Let me calrify it first. Nowadays (typical mind on most of us), Indians are too much talking, Chinese are too much money oriented, and Malay are too pampered. What's the relationship then?!. Yea...In the meeting, the agency and our side were represented by Indians and Malays. All the talking were done by the Indians and the Malays were just listened and got on hands when it really bothered. And from my quick obsevation, most of the agency's top personels are Indians, the designers are 80% Malays 20% Chinese, while their finance personels are Chinese. And I strongly believe, this agency is really truly practising the colonial's era of Tanah Melayu. It might be just a coincedence, depends on one's interpretation.

This is so punk-rawk....hahaha. Peace...
